The articles on this site are based on my experience accumulated over a thirty-year career in businesses ranging in size from the largest multinationals to the smallest one-man operations. In the course of my business career, I developed new markets in the ship building industry, ran multi-million dollar projects for electric utilities, managed project engineers and sales teams in high tech, started up small businesses in theatre production and IT and enjoyed rising to the many challenges of operating profitably and ethically in a business environment.

Most of the articles featured on this site were orginally published by Suite101 on the suite101.com website over a period of several years. They are organized into the sections shown on the menu bar on the left - clicking a section will show you the titles of the articles in that section. Often the articles were triggered by current events or by things that happened in my businesses. Almost all the articles deal with observations made in a real business environment and the advice has been field tested.

Beyond dealing with pure business issues, the articles offer guidance regarding the type of business an individual should choose to increase his chances of success and suggest ways to match skills and interests to the requirements of a particular business. The whole point of "growing your own business" rather than working in someone else's is to get into an interesting field where the work is enjoyable and the business can be run and structured freely without the limits imposed by superiors. That's what the articles on this site are about.
